Winter Favorites

I first wrote a draft of this post when I thought spring had arrived. You know: hot sun, flowers blooming, champagne mangoes piled high at the grocery store. Little did I know we still had plenty of below zero temperatures ahead and even snow in our future. Yikes.

Then I again sat down to finish this post smack in the middle some big changes; 2 cities have to share me this summer, but more on that another time. It was solidly in the 60s with a few scorchers in the 80s (for April, 80s definitely qualifies as just that!), and life was all about flowy sundresses, massive green smoothies, smelling and admiring all the flowers that made it through the confused winter, and taking meditative walks by the river with the pup.

Now here we are, and despite a lot of chillier weather recently, yes, spring has returned — for good this time –, and so has my favorites list. Woohoo!

Note: This is not a sponsored post, but simply a sharing of my very favorite things of this month the winter. If I ever feature a sponsored product, it will be clearly stated. Enjoy! Continue reading

Where I Am Now + My Feature in Edible Allegheny

Hi, all!

It’s been pleasantly productive over here with an abundance of fulfilling work being done, but oh how I’ve missed spending time on this blog. I haven’t even written about my word of the year/yearly focus as I did with last years “soften,” which was only the first of three words that fostered my personal evolution in 2015.

While 2015 was centered inward, 2016 has been all about branching out beyond myself. Continue reading

Thoughts on Living My Purpose

Hello, friends!

I’m wrapped in a robe and snuggled up with the furbaby today. Winter finally has a firm grasp on us. I can’t say I’m exactly thrilled. I love glistening snowscapes and crisp morning walks, but these negative temperatures are huge energy-robbers for chronic fatigue. So, mixed feelings. It’s an army of essential oils, potent plant foods, herbal support, and green juices over here. Nevertheless, my hibernation tendencies have kicked in. I’ve cozied into this extra quiet time with loving focus on inner healing and creative expression, and it feels so good.

You know those moments when synchronicities are coming left and right, and inspiration is rolling as freely as perfect poetry does from the tip of your tongue? Oh, I’m so there right now. Continue reading

My Current Herbal & Medicinal Tea Favorites

It’s Memorial Day, and people are probably thinking more about iced tea than hot tea, but there’s a place in my life for hot herbal teas, or tisanes, all year round. To me, they provide yet another healing opportunity for the body, and I never turn that down! I wanted to share some of the teas that have been helpful for me recently. Maybe you’ll find a new favorite for yourself!

A Novice’s View of Ayurveda + More Shinrin Yoku

There’s an ancient healing system called Ayurveda. You may have heard about it, but most of us in the Western world are not well-versed in its practices. Over the years, I’ve dabbled with Ayurveda; I adopted some of the practices, I took an introductory class on it, consulted with a practitioner, read books (Deepak Chopra’s Perfect Health is one of the most popular). It’s very complex, but even knowing the small bits I know – I’m still a total novice – has helped me understand health in a more complete way.pgh from a hill Continue reading
